Suspect Charged After Austin Man Killed at Farm Field Party

ALBERT LEA, Minn. (AP) - A 26-year-old Austin man is charged with fatally hitting a man with an SUV in a southern Minnesota pasture during a weekend party before driving away.

Nathan Brooks was charged Tuesday in Freeborn County court with a felony count of criminal vehicular homicide. Brooks also faces a gross misdemeanor count of driving after his license was canceled.

Sheriff's officials say 30-year-old Alex Tapp of Austin was struck by the Chevy Suburban while attending the pasture party about seven miles west of Austin Saturday night. Despite life-saving efforts, Tapp died at the scene.

Authorities say Brooks fled, and then turned himself in the next day.

Brooks' license has been revoked since 2009. He's been convicted of drunken driving three times, most recently in 2014.
