Susan Ruby, age 60, of Motley passed away early Sunday morning with her family by her side. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Wednesday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Motley. Wake Services will be from 5:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the church in Motley with Parish Prayers at 7:45 and also visitation for one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

Susan was born on February 15, 1954, in St. Charles, MO, the daughter of William and Barbara (Henson) Hlavaty. She graduated from Fort Zumwalt High School and went on to college. On February 2, 1974, she was united in marriage to John Ruby in St. Charles. Together they raised 3 children, John, Brian, and Emily. In 1990 the family moved to Fishtrap Lake near Lincoln and later to their home north of Motley. Susan was a devoted Catholic, passionate about Jesus, and living her faith to the utmost. She cherished her time as a homemaker and loved looking after her husband, children, and grandchildren. Nothing made her happier than cooking, baking, working in her garden, and raising homegrown food and flowers for her family. Susan’s whole world revolved around her husband, children and grandchildren. Susan still found time, however, to work for Morrison County Social Services as a long term care financial worker for nearly 15 years. Susan enjoyed her work there as well as the many friendships she developed with her coworkers. With her family by her side and her passionate faith she fought her illness for 7 years.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, Bill; and sister, Kelly. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband, John of Motley, children, John (Becky) Ruby of Little Falls, MN, Brian (Maggie) Ruby of Little Falls, MN, and Emily (James) Sutton of Bemidji, MN, and her 5 grandsons, and 1 granddaughter. Also left to cherish her memory is her mother, Barb; siblings, Bill (Cheri) Hlavaty, Lonnie (Tina) Hlavaty, Tammy (Thomas) Macher, and Rudy (Elizabeth) Hlavaty; many nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
