Sun Country Bids For Route To Havana
MENDOTA HEIGHTS (AP) - Sun Country Airlines is asking the federal government to fly two nonstop flights from the Twin Cities to Havana, Cuba.
Sun Country is among the U.S. airlines submitting route bids to the Department of Transportation by the Wednesday deadline. The airlines are competing to fly the first commercial nonstop routes between the U.S. and Cuba in 50 years.
The Mendota Heights-based airline is the only one bidding for a nonstop flight between Minnesota and Cuba.
Federal transportation officials will assign 110 routes between the airlines, but just 20 are to Cuba's capital city. The remaining routes will be to Cuba's nine other international airports.
