MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The chairman of Sun Country Airlines told employees he has fired the man who served as president and chief executive of the Minnesota-based carrier since 2015.

Chairman Marty Davis said in an email to Sun Country staffers that Zarir Erani is no longer leading the company. The move comes after the airline failed to meet monthly forecasts for more than a year.

Davis would not elaborate on the decision, but says it had nothing to do with the company's financial results.

Davis said in the email that Erani will work on technology initiatives in other companies owned by the family. The Davis family owns a number of Minnesota companies, including Cambria and Davis Family Dairies. They bought the airline in 2011.
