Students Find Their Calling in Sauk Rapids-Rice FFA Program [VIDEO]

SAUK RAPIDS — Many high school students spend their time finding some place they belong. At Sauk Rapids-Rice, some students have found that place in FFA.

Known as Future Farmers of America, many students find FFA as a way to meet new people with the same interest.

“We do a lot of activities and get to meet a lot of new people and make new friendships,” says FFA member Andrew Vannerden.

Hannah Taylor is the Agricultural Teacher at Sauk Rapids-Rice high school. She says agriculture is something many students can relate too.

“I find a lot of student’s can relate to agriculture, whether that’s the food they eat or animals they have at home,” says Taylor.

Students in FFA meet once a month to discuss upcoming projects or competitions.

“One of the projects we are currently working on is called PALS where we go into the Kindergarten rooms and do mini lessons on agriculture,” says Taylor.

Taylor says FFA is not just for students who grow up on farms. She says she has students with no farm experience in the program.

“I have students who live in apartments join FFA, it’s not just for students who come from a farming background.” says Taylor. “Anyone interested in the agricultural industry is welcomed to join.”

Taylor says she has seen students grow from being in FFA, which she feels will help them as they continue to go through life and look for jobs within the industry.
