Students Attempting To Return To Winona From Egypt

Winona State (Facebook)

WINONA (AP) – Six Winona State University students whose homeland has been engulfed in political violence are trying to make their way back to Minnesota for the fall semester.

A military-imposed state of emergency in Egypt has restricted movement on the streets of Cairo where unprecedented bloodshed has left more than 600 dead.

Nabih Elteir is a political science student at WSU. He says four of the six students are hoping to catch their flights after the curfew lifts Friday morning, but how and when the other two students will get back to Winona is unclear.

Thousands of Muslim Brotherhood supporters have taken to the streets in Cairo and elsewhere in Egypt in defiance of the state of emergency. Elteir says he disagrees with the mentality of the brotherhood. He says Egypt will never be controlled.
