ST. CLOUD - Thunderstorms, hails and rumblings of tornados around the state  should serve as a reminder that storm season is upon us. As many of us know, fixing your home following a storm can be a big headache.

The Better Business Bureau of Minnesota and North Dakota has some smart suggestions for making the process as efficient and affordable as possible.

-First, contact your insurance company immediately to get details on your policy and coverage.

-Document damage with pictures and/or video.

-Don't go ahead with making repairs until you get approval for coverage by your insuance agency, but protect your home from any further damage by boarding up broken windows or laying a tarp over a leaky roof.

-Get advice from family and friends in order to find a reliable and reasonable contractor, and never pay until the work is done.

-Finally, stay calm and focused. Having your home damaged by a storm can be an emotional experience, but don't feel pressure to make hasty decisions or choose an unknown contractor.
