DULUTH (AP) - A late winter storm dropped heavy snow in parts of northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, while other areas dealt with flooding from downpours.

Silver Bay in Lake County is digging out from 11 1/2 inches of snow while state transportation crews worked to clear a flooded Interstate 35 in downtown Duluth Wednesday.

Forecasters say a layer of warm air near Lake Superior generated mostly rain for most of the day, finally changing over to snow later Wednesday.

Proctor resident Doug Kalland says he's learned from living in the area for 20 years to keep his snow equipment handy, even into "March madness."

Some school districts delayed the start of classes Thursday, including Bessemer and Floodwood.
