ST. CLOUD  (AP) - A pit bull puppy stolen from a St. Cloud animal shelter has been found and returned to the shelter.

The 6-month-old puppy, named "Benton," was stolen over the weekend from the Tri-County Humane Society in St. Cloud.

On Wednesday, tips led police to a home in rural Benton County where they found the dog. Investigators found the family had been given the dog by another person, and the family didn't know the dog had been stolen.

The dog's identity was confirmed by a microchip placed on the dog by the Tri-County Humane Society.

Humane Society executive director Vicki Davis says police returned Benton
Wednesday afternoon. Davis says the puppy is "a little tired, but a happy, happy dog."

The investigation continues.
