Stewart L. Austin, 85, of Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, passed away at Bethany Care Center in Brainerd on Wednesday, October 1, 2014.

Stewart was born June 7, 1929 at Grand Forks, North Dakota to Stewart P. and Tillie (Stallmo) Austin. He grew up in East Grand Forks and served with the U.S. Army. On December 18, 1953 he married Virginia Qual at Dubuque, Iowa. Stu was a marble setter by trade and worked on many commercial construction projects throughout the US. He was a long time member of the Jenkins VFW. Virginia passed away on July 10, 2007.

Family members include his children, Rodger (Rosie) Bubendorf, Nisswa, MN, Rochelle (Lynn) Harker, Crosby, MN, Mark (Dawn) Austin, Hallock, MN and Lee (Trudy) Austin, Baxter, MN; grandchildren, Jamison (Shannon) Harker, Grand Rapids, MN, Brian Harker, Cloquet, MN, Michael (Julie) Austin, Brainerd, Erika (Matt) Doucette, Crosby, Aaron Austin, Padre Island, TX, Zachary (Emily) Austin, Osseo, MN and Trevor Austin, Fargo; great grandchildren, Ben and Katie Harker, Emerson, Easton and Eagan, Harker, Anthony, Nicholas, Isabella and Sophia Austin, Cole Doucette, Hayden, Kellen and Grayson Austin; a brother, John in Sacramento, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; a sister, Bernice and three brothers, Russell, Earl and Gene.

Private family services will be held on Friday, October 3rd at the Minnesota Veterans Cemetery in Camp Ripley, Little Falls, Minnesota. His grandchildren will serve as casket bearers. Military honors will be accorded by the Jenkins VFW Honor Guard. Visitation will held at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 7 p.m.
