ST. CLOUD -- Stearns County is asking you to prepare and plan for possible emergencies during this National Preparedness Month.

In an emergency you may be required to be self-reliant for days without utilities, electrical service, phone service or water.

Stearns County Emergency Management Director Erin Hausauer says you can prepare by first understanding what emergencies may impact your community, like severe storms blizzards or floods.

There are four things you can do to become better prepared in case of an emergency. Be informed, make an emergency plan, build an emergency supply kit and get involved with family and friends so everyone knows how to communicate that everyone is safe in case communications are down.
