Stearns County Teen Explorer Saves Man’s Life
ST. CLOUD -- A Foley teenager received an award for saving a man's life earlier this month.
17-year-old Shiana Ganoe, a member of the Stearns County Explorer program, was working an event at AMI Auction Services when she noticed a man choking on some food.
She immediately responded and gave the Heimlich maneuver, dislodging the food allowing the man to breathe again.
Ganoe joined the Explorers in October and had been trained in first aid about two weeks before the incident.
The Explorers are youth ages 15-21 who are planning to pursue a career in law enforcement. They train once a week throughout the year and are involved things such as directing traffic during special events, providing security and doing ride-alongs with licensed deputies.
Ganoe received the Life Saving Award Thursday from the Stearns County Sheriff's Office.
