ST. CLOUD -- Efforts to grow operations at St. Cloud Regional Airport are taking a new path with plans to conduct a comprehensive air transport study.

The Greater St. Cloud Development Corporation is taking the lead in asking the three-county area to support a resolution seeking a grant to fund the study.

GSDC President Patti Gartland says the economic development strategy will be in-depth and include a regional airport authority.  Fellow GSDC spokesperson Brian Myres says the study will look at all areas of expanding airport operations including commercial aviation, cargo and transport aviation and military operations expansion.

Stearns County commissioners passed the resolution today (Tuesday) by a 3-2 vote. Benton and Sherburne County commissioners will be asked for the same support in the near future.
