SARTELL -- A high number of serious crashes at a Sartell intersection is prompting Stearns County to seek a federal grant for a roundabout there.

Stearns County Engineer Jodi Teich says County Road 133-19th Avenue intersection has become a problem area for Sartell commuters. She says a roundabout would work well at that intersection because it would slow traffic without forcing motorists to stop.

The Sartell City Council must approve the grant application. It would be for $405-thousand and come from the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program.

If approved, work could start as soon as 2014.
