ST. CLOUD -- Stearns County officials want to remind you it is illegal to place political signs in the highway rights of way. Campaign signs can't be placed on private property outside of the right of way limits without the landowner's permission either.

Crews will remove signs in the right of way and hold them for 10 days. If you don't pick them up within 10 days, county staff will dispose of them.

The highway right of way consists of driving lanes, inside and outside shoulders, ditches and at sight corners of intersections.

The penalty for illegally placing political signs is a misdemeanor.
