WAITE PARK - County and state officials remind you to test your home for radon.

Starting today (Monday) Stearns County is giving away free radon testing kits.

They say one in three existing Minnesota homes have elevated levels.  Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S., and more than 21,000 deaths are attributed to radon each year.

It's an odorless, colorless, and tasteless radioactive gas that occurs naturally in Minnesota soils.

To get your free test kit, go to the Public Health Office at the Stearns County Service Center in Waite Park.  Kits can also be picked-up at the county office in Melrose on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
