ST. CLOUD --  About 1,200 senior citizens in Stearns County won't be able to get free health assessments and toe nails trimmed next year. The county has decided to eliminate the program to make up for shortfalls in staffing elsewhere.

County Public Health Division Director Renee Frauendienst says they know some elderly residents will be hurt by the cutbacks, but they need to prioritize their efforts and utilize staff for mandated services.

Eliminating the Senior Clinic Services will save the county about $35,000 a year plus staff overtime.
