ST. CLOUD -- Stearns County residents would likely see a decrease in the county portion of their taxes in 2013 despite a proposed increase in the budget for next year.

Stearns County Administrator George Rindelaub says they are proposing a levy decrease of 0.30. That, coupled with lower home valuations will likely translate to lower property taxes for 90% of county homeowners.

Rindelaub says the proposed budget is actually an increase of about 2 1/2% because of road and bridge projects.  But, he says the increase is offset because of state and federal transportation dollars.

The county will adopt the final 2013 budget and levy at their December Truth-In-Taxation hearing.
