UNDATED -- Livestock farmers who are looking to expand their farms or make improvements are being encouraged to apply for state grant money.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has $2,000,000 set aside through their Agricultural Growth, Research and Innovation Program. Farmers who qualify are reimbursed 10% of the first $500,000 of investment.

Grants are eligible for farmers who are building or expanding livestock facilities, including fencing and waste management.  Farmers who suffered a loss due to natural disaster also qualify. Land purchases, debt refinancing and adding animals are not eligible.

Last year, 104 livestock farmers received grant money.

Applications are due December 16th and details can be found on the Minnesota Department of Agriculture's website.
