ST. CLOUD -- A new martial arts studio has opened its doors in downtown St. Cloud.

Start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy features classes on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Thai Kick-Boxing, focusing mostly on self-defense.  Brock Larson is a professor at Start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy. He says the martial arts studio offers classes for all ages.

"Anywhere from children, we've got as young as four-year-old kids, and we've got adults in their mid-50s."

With having a wide-range of ages, classes are also available for all skill levels.

"[We have] white belts, guys that just joined yesterday to myself being a black belt, who has been doing it for 17+ years."

Brock says all classes are co-ed with exception of their women's self-defense class.

"I've found out it's a pretty good bridge for a lot of ladies that want to come in, train and learn how to defend themselves but aren't really comfortable with the male end of it right away."

If you are interested in joining a class, stop by the academy to try it out. Brock says instructors will walk you through everything you need to know.

"We sit down and decide what program is going to be a good fit. We do a 10 minute intro, where we going over some of the stuff that we're going to do in class. Then they come in and do a class, a free class, and make the decision of whether or not it's something they want to do."

Classes run Monday through Saturday. Start Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is on the corner of 7th Avenue South and 1st Street South in downtown St. Cloud.
