ST. PAUL (AP) -- Police say they've made an arrest after a woman was found dead in a St. Paul townhome where a 16-year-old girl had been brutally attacked and sexually assaulted.

Authorities say the man was known to both the teen and the 39-year-old woman who died. Police have not identified the woman, said what caused her death or her relationship to the girl.

The 33-year-old man was arrested on possible charges of kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct. Police say he is a person of interest in the homicide investigation. The mother of the girl says her daughter was held hostage for five hours and was choked and sexually assaulted.

Police say the suspect was arrested in downtown St. Paul about noon Monday, five hours after police were called to the townhome.
