ST. LOUIS PARK (AP) - A Twin Cities suburb could be the first in Minnesota to completely ban plastic bags.

A majority of City Council members in St. Louis Park are supporting the ban. But council member Anne Mavity says they will gather input from residents before voting on it.

Council member Tim Brausen says he hopes the community will be a leader on the environmental issue. Brausen says leaders must look at what's healthy and sustainable, not what's cheapest and easiest.

Many cities in California have similar bag bans. But, a statewide ban there has faced fierce opposition from the bag industry and a vote has been pushed ahead to November 2016.
