ST. JOSEPH - A new three-story retail and residential loft building is expected to arrive in downtown St. Joseph in November.

What was formerly known as the "Bayou Alley Flats" in downtown St. Joseph has been renamed the "24 North Lofts on College Avenue". The name was changed to reflect the buildings location at 24 College Avenue North. The St. Joseph city council gave the go-ahead on the project last year.

The building will have businesses on the first floor and loft apartments on the top floors

Colleen Petters with Collegeville Properties says the building will now feature a French influenced restaurant. A southern-style (New Orleans) restaurant was originally supposed to occupy the building but plans ended up falling through.

"It will be a slightly upscale restaurant with a French-influenced menu really tailored to Central Minnesota."

Petters adds that they still have space for new businesses on the first floor.

"We have about 3,000 square feet still available. We're hoping for either a contrasting restaurant, shops, or a boutique. Something that will capture a lot of the market of people who come to St. Joe now."

Construction on the building is expected to start this spring for an early November 2016 completion.

The residential lofts on the second and third floors have some new features. Every unit features a gas fireplace, a den has been added to the one bedroom lofts and the balconies will now be twice as deep.

The one bedroom lofts will rent for around $995 a month.
