ST. JOSEPH - After years of planning, St. Joseph dog owners are finally getting a dog park in their town. The city council approved the plan during Monday night's meeting.

City Administrator Judy Weyrens says the dog park will be in Millstream Park and will be done in three stages.

The first phase will include an area for large dogs.  It will include some fencing, a park bench, some trees.  The cost is about $15,000.

Weyrens says the community raised $5,000 and the city will pay for the rest of the project. She says stages two and three will be done in the coming years.

Phase two could include a water amenity, and phase three could have an area for small dogs.  It is anticipated that people will get excited when they see the dog park and will want to help fund phase two and three.

Weyrens says construction on the first stage will start in a couple of weeks, and it should be done in about a month.
