ST. JOSEPH - St. Joseph is continuing to work towards creating a dog park in town.

The plan was first presented to the city council earlier this month. John Anderson is chair of the park board and says a possible location for the park is a site between Fir Street and Highway 75, directly east of the Lake Wobegon Trail.

'That's a piece of property that's city owned and hasn't been utlized for anything else."

Some residents who live in nearby neighborhoods said they were opposed to having a dog park near their home. The city is also looking at several other parks as possible locations.

The park board is planning to hold an open forum on a dog park on September 28th in city hall. Anderson says the city has been talking about the possibility of a dog park for years.

"It's been an interest item for at least the last three years or possibly longer, so we've been looking at our city parks and are trying to determine space appropriate for it."

The park would likely be funded and built mostly through donations and volunteer work.
