ST. JOSEPH -- The City of St. Joseph has announced the names of the two candidates being considered for the open police officer positions at Thursday's meeting.

Shane Vernier and Travis Manderscheid have been given conditional job offers pending the completion of a background check.

Of the more than 120 people who applied for the position, 12 were interviewed. Four of those candidates went on to meet with the personnel committee who narrowed it down to two people.

One of the candidates will fill the position made available when Joel Klein was hired on as the new Police Chief.

The second candidate will become the eighth police officer in the department. The council passed a motion last November which created funding for the new position.

City administrator, Judy Weyrens says it will be about 30 days before they get the results of the background checks.
