COLLEGEVILLE - The Board of Regents at St. John's University endorsed a plan today (Friday) that would separate them from St. John's Abbey.

They plan to create a new civil corporation for the University, which will go into effect on July 1st.

Meanwhile, the Prep School and Liturgical Press will remain divisions of the Abbey Corporation.

The split has been in the works for five years.  Officials say the missions of the Abbey and University corporations will not change.

WJON news will interview Abbot John Klassen on Tuesday, and we'll learn more about the plans at that time.
