ST. JOSEPH -- The City of St. Joseph will soon be looking to hire a replacement for their Police Chief, Pete Jansky who announced his retirement a few weeks ago.

The council decided at tonight's (Thursday) meeting they will open applications up internally as well as externally.

There was debate over whether to accept outside applications.

It was moved by council member, Bob Loso and given a second by council member, Renee Symanietz to include an external application process. The motion passed with one opposed. City Administrator, Judy Weyrens says it was a tough decision to make.

Weyrens says they hope to fill the position by July 1st. Jansky will step down from his position in August.
