St. Joe Has New Rental Regulations [AUDIO]

ST. JOSEPH — The City of St. Joseph decided to change their restrictions on the R1 Rental Regulation ordinance last night (Thursday).
They added in a section that will now allow homeowners who are having trouble selling their property temporarily rent out their homes if they meet two criteria.
They have to have lived in the home for at least two years, and have proof of their home being on the market for at least three months.
There was debate among council members on whether to keep the original one year time frame or increase it to two. City Administrator, Judy Weyrens says she thinks the ordinance will help maintain what people expect when they move to St. Joe.
Some members said they thought a one year requirement could be too easily taken advantage of by someone looking to buy and rent out a home.
