St. Cloud to Allow Designated Driver Services

ST. CLOUD -- You will soon be able to make a phone call and have a designated driver take you and your vehicle home. The St. Cloud City Council has amended its taxi cab ordinance allowing for designated drivers for hire.

Designated Drivers are becoming a popular way for people who have been drinking to get them and their cars home safely.

The service operates as a business where a customer can call for a ride and have a driver and support vehicle arrive to drive the customer home in their vehicle for a fee.

The city's current taxi cab ordinance didn't allow for the "Designated Driver" service.

The council made an amendment to the provision requiring drivers to pass the same background checks as taxi cab drivers and wanted assurance any designated driver business was properly insured.

The measure passed unanimously.
