ST. CLOUD - Members of the St. Cloud community took part in the Million Vet March this morning, a nation wide protest against the closing of war memorials due to the government shutdown.

A group of veterans and supporters gathered at the Vietnam Memorial at Lake George, in conjunction and in sync with the national rally being held in Washington DC at the same time.

St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis took part in the event, emphasizing the importance of keeping war memorials open.

"I know in St. Cloud we will never close these memorials for any government purpose, these are open for our veterans, they're here to honor our veterans." Kleis said.

Each state planned to hold a rally today, in addition to the main event in Washington DC.  The goal of the march is to show remembrance to veterans and support those who wish to access these memorials.
