ST. CLOUD -- The St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra is kicking off its 2017-2018 season Friday.

The orchestra's preview concert will be Friday, at 7:30 p.m. in Ritsche Auditorium, on the campus of St. Cloud State University.

Brian Dowdy is the orchestra's new conductor for this season. He says Friday's concert will give you a small taste of what's in store for the rest of the season.

"We will be performing the first movement of Dvorak's 8th symphony, and we will perform that full symphony in November. We will be presenting the first movement of Debussy's 'Petite Suite' that movement's title is 'En Bateau' which means on a boat or sailing, and we'll do that full suite at the end of our season."

The orchestra will also be playing "Polonaise" which is a Polish dance from Rimsey-Korsakov's opera "Christmas Eve".

Dowdy says he's very excited for this season and if you're interested in auditioning for the St. Cloud Symphony Orchestra, you can do so on Monday.

"Usually you'll come and play for a small group of people including myself, some else that plays your instrument and then a few other members from the orchestra so we have small group of people to determine if this person is a good fit."
