ST. CLOUD -- Some of the new dining options at St. Cloud State University won't be available for staff or students until mid fall semester.

Last spring St. Cloud State announced it would be ending its 10-year partnership with Sodexo and switching over to a new food service provider, Chartwells.

The university along with Chartwells started a $2 million project at the beginning of the summer to upgrade Garvey Commons and Atwood Memorial Center.

The goal was to have most of the renovations in Garvey and Atwood completed before students returned to campus in the fall. Some minor upgrades still need to be finished during winter break at Garvey and construction is still underway at Atwood.

Matt Trombley, Interim Executive Director at Atwood, says some of the new dining options will not be available until late September/early October.

"This is the end of a long process of listening to a lot of student input and then building concepts to match what students said they wanted on campus, the three main concepts are Chick-fil-A restaurant, that's opening along with two other concepts on Monday, September 26. So we have Chick-Fil-A, Erbert & Gerbert's and then a combined Einstein Bros Bagels and Caribou Coffee called Coffee and Bagels."

Trombley says another option "The Den by Denny's" is scheduled to open Monday, October 10. Although construction is still taking place at Atwood, students and staff still have many dining options.

"In the interim what we are doing is adding some different options for students from the Wandering Mug Coffee Shop, there will be a full service coffee truck out on the Atwood mall, as well as the Axle Grill. During the day, until those new concepts open in late September, there will be those additional food truck options.

Along with the food truck options Trombley says the International Market on the lower level of Atwood will have extended hours and more grab-n-go items and coffee will be available at the Atwood Outpost located across from the Atwood Information Desk.

The International Market has a couple returning favorites such as Burrito Bowl and Freshens but has also added a few new options including Za'tar, Chef Jet and Sushi Do. Za'tar features Mediterranean style food, Chef Jet has a modern Asian concept and Sushi Do puts a western twist on traditional Japanese style sushi.

St. Cloud State's freshmen move-in day is today (Thursday) and classes begin this Monday.
