ST. CLOUD -- St. Cloud State University will go completely tobacco-free in August, 2012.

SCSU President Earl Potter released a statement today saying they will begin transitioning toward a tobacco-free campus this August, allowing tobacco use only in designated outdoor areas.

Then, next August the SCSU campus will prohibit both smoking and smokeless tobacco except in private vehicles, traditional Native American Ceremonies, theatrical productions and scientific studies.

The move comes after a 13-member Smoking Policy Review Task Force recommended the change and students voted in favor of the changes.

Potter says the school will offer education, awareness, support and cessation services to the campus community.
