ST. CLOUD - Dozens of students and community members gathered at Barden Park on Saturday to raise awareness for youth experiencing homelessness in Central Minnesota.

St. Cloud State University partnered with the United Way to host the event. The walk was called "325 in the 320" to represent the 325 homeless youth living in the area.

Director of Community Relations for the United Way, Christine Midthun, says the event was all about raising awareness and getting attention from the St. Cloud community.

"We really went in with this sort of flash mob mentality, we thought the young community at St. Cloud State would help put a face on homelessness in the area," Midthun says.

The walk started in Barden Park and went to Division Street. Attendees were encouraged to wear purple, the homelessness awareness color.

After the walk, the event concluded with SCSU student Andre Summey giving a speech on how he overcame homelessness.
