ST. CLOUD -- St. Cloud State University has been given a $420,000 grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation. The grant is designed to help "at-risk" students overcome financial obstacles through 2019.

SCSU will add another $50,000 to the grant, bringing the total to $470,000 for the financial-obstacles fund. The grant will be handled by Multicultural Student Services along with the Financial Aid Office and Office of Strategy, Planning and Effectiveness.

In a statement, Shawn Kakuk, head of the Multicultural Tutoring Program for MSS says,

"Those eligible for the grant are students with an estimated family contribution of less than $7,000."

The grant is part of a larger, $7,200,000 program that has awarded grants to 32, four-year colleges in six states.
