ST. CLOUD - St. Cloud residents who have passed part of the GED test are rushing to try and finish by the end of this year before a new version takes place in January.

The new test will be implemented on January 1st 2014. GED scores will be erased for those in progress when the new version of the test arrives. Scott Wallner, the Assistant Community Education Director at Discovery school recommends that those in progress finish the test this year:

The new version of the test will be computer only, replacing the original pencil and paper method. Wallner says their are some benefits to having a computer only test, but is also concerned about those who lack education on computers:

The computer version will take place in a new location at the Atwood Memorial Center in St. Cloud State University. Wallner says test preparation and classes will continue to be available and held at Discovery School in Waite Park:

The new GED tests are also expected to be a tad more difficult and will cost more to take. Passing the test certifies high school level academic skills.

Additional information on the GED changes and studying classes available can be found on the District 742 website.
