ST. CLOUD - The unemployment rate in the St. Cloud metro area jumped in January.  We went from 4.8 percent unemployment in December, to 6.1 percent in January.

A rise in the unemployment rate after the holiday shopping season is typical.  By comparison, the St. Cloud metro area was at 7.2 percent in January 2013.

We are much higher than the statewide average, which is at 4.7 percent.  We're also close to the national average now, which is at 6.6 percent.
