MENTOR - A St. Cloud man has died as the result of a swimming accident on Cable Lake near Mentor, Minnesota.

Polk County authorities say 47-year-old Todd Steinke broke his neck after diving into shallow water. It happened Saturday night, while Steinke was attending a gathering with family and friends at Cable Lake.

The sheriff's office says Steinke was near the shoreline when two family members pulled him from the water.

Steinke was pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics tried to revive him. An autopsy done at the University of North Dakota's forensic and pathology lab said Steinke had a broken neck.

Last month Steinke accepted the position of CentraCare Health Vice President, Philanthropy and Community Health. Since 2004, Steinke has been Director of Development for the CentraCare Health Foundation.

Jeanine Nistler, communications director at CentraCare, says Steinke was "simply a great guy."
