ST. CLOUD - A St. Cloud man has been charged in federal court on weapons and drug charges.

Thirty-four-year-old Billy Ashmore was taken into custody after a traffic stop by St. Cloud police on July 1st. During the stop, Ashmore allegedly had 30 grams of methamphetamine, and a .38 caliber handgun. The handgun was later determined to be stolen out of Grant County.

Ashmore is a convicted felon and not able to have a gun. He made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court this past week.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to 15 years in federal prison.

The investigation was conducted by the Central Minnesota Violent Offender Task Force and federal authorities from the ATF.
