St. Cloud Man Arrested After Police Chase

ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud man was arrested after leading authorities on a chase which Friday afternoon.

Stearns County Sheriff's officials assisted St. Cloud Police in tracking down 41-year-old Jason Abel on an order for protection violation.

They spotted Abel in St. Augusta and tried to pull him over. Abel allegedly failed to stop and officers called off the chase for safety reasons. A short time later, at about 2:30 p.m., St. Cloud Police and the State Patrol spotted Abel's vehicle near South Junior High. Police say Abel got out of the vehicle and fled on foot.

The situation prompted the St. Cloud Area School District to put South Junior High and Tech High School on containment where students were unable to exit the school buildings.

Abel was found a short time later hiding under a deck and arrested.

The all-clear was given to the schools shortly after 3:00 p.m.
