ST. CLOUD -- A gas leak which prompted a number of homes to be evacuated and streets to be closed in St. Cloud has been contained.

The leak was caused by drilling equipment which struck a high pressure line in the area of 12th Avenue and 2nd Street North. Emergency crews responded and created a two-block perimeter around the site and evacuated homes in the area.

Xcel Energy remains on site as they put the finishing touches on the repair but a majority of the streets have re-opened and emergency crews have left the scene.

There is still a small closure along 12th Avenue for a time yet as the work is completed.
