St. Cloud Doctor Conducts Diabetic Study Similar to National Study Findings [VIDEO]

ST. CLOUD -- A St. Cloud doctor is working on a new study finding the correlation between weight-loss and diabetes.

CentraCare surgeon Dr. Sayeed Ikramuddin has been conducting a new diabetic study throughout Minnesota for two years.

His study is one related to national studies findings that were released on April 1st.

Ikramuddin says his study focuses on a specialized treatment goal.

"In Minnesota and other places we look at a composite measure for a treatment of diabetes,"says Ikramuddin.

The national study looked at 150 people with serious type-2 diabetes and gave them a choice between surgery or a medical study.

"The weight-loss was most in the gastric bypass and then in the medical group you could still lose weight but wasn't effective in improving the glucose control as much, because the weight loss wasn't as much," says. Ikramuddin

Ikramuddin says they still need more data on the subject.

He hopes to officially release his findings of his study in June.
