ST. CLOUD -- A proposed 100-unit apartment complex near Boulder Ridge Golf Course in St. Cloud will go forward despite opposition from neighbors in the area.

The city council voted 5-2 in favor of granting Torborg Construction a Planned Unit Development to include multiple family housing.

Neighborhood resident Mike Lyon says he and his wife built their home there because it was zoned for low-density mixed residential uses not apartment complexes.  Fellow neighbor Christie Young says there is no basis to allow for a change to the comprehensive plan.

But, Community Development Director Matt Glaesman reminded the council that the city's comprehensive plan encourages a mix of housing.

The three-story, 100-unit building will be built in the Sun Villa neighborhood along County Highway 74 in southwest St. Cloud.
