ST. CLOUD - A plan to attract more tourists, and build economic development, will be discussed tonight (Tuesday) in St. Cloud.

The Planning Commission and the Arts Commission are getting their first look at placemaking recommendations by the firm The Lakota Group.

Community Development Director Matt Glaesman it was good to have an outside group look at how the city is promoting itself.

Glaesman says the draft plan suggests the city adopt the brand "St. Cloud: Greater".

Some projects suggested in the plan include: better connections between the downtown and the Lake George area, more lighting and public art near the 10th Avenue underpass at Highway 23, and better streetscaping along Fifth Avenue.  A winter festival and a permanent farmers market are among other suggestions.

Glaesman says eventually the city council will decide whether to approve the document as part of their long range plan.
