ST. CLOUD - An extension on how long some people can stay in the St. Cloud homeless shelters has been made permanent.

Back in 2011 the city council amended the city ordinance that allowed 10 percent of people staying at a shelter to live there an extra 45 days, beyond the standard 45-day limit.

The amendment was scheduled to sunset at the end of this month.

The council voted unanimously this (Monday) evening to make the amendment permanent.

Anna Marie's Alliance and the Salvation Army are the two facility's that run shelters in town.

Last month the city council also approved allowing Anna Marie's residents to stay past the 45-day limit, if they have a court-mandated order.
