SAUK RAPIDS - Urban Lodge Brewery hosted a day full of Halloween fun topped off by beer inspired sounds of the Twin Cities Beer Choir.

Early Sunday afternoon people were drinking some craft beer and carving some pumpkins. After the carving, the St. Cloud chapter of the beer choir made its central Minnesota debut.

The brew inspired songs and hymns the group sang made for a light, fun atmosphere at the brewery and restaurant.

Maureen Putnam helped organize the event and played piano for the choir. She says this is a great way to help people get together.

"We started to hear a little about beer choir and decided that's it. It is the perfect thing, it's good music with bringing people into a community."

While Putnam is a professional musician, she says coming to beer choir requires no musical talent.

"There is no talent required. It is fun songs and sing-a-long tunes."

Some of the songs are traditional German drinking songs, while others are beer inspired takes on some familiar classics.

Peter Durow is a composer from the Twin Cities who helped start the Twin Cities chapter of the Minnesota Beer Choir. He says being a part of the beer choir was an easy choice for him.

"I get to combine two of my favorite things, local craft beer and music. Who wouldn't want to be around that?"

The St. Cloud chapter of the beer choir says to keep an eye on their Facebook page for information about upcoming choir events.
