ST. CLOUD. (AP) - The Tri-County Beekeepers Association plans to offer a scholarship to a central Minnesota teen in an effort to attract younger people to the hobby.

Locals between 12 and 17 years old who are interested in pursuing beekeeping are encouraged to apply for a chance to receive equipment, woodenware and a package of bees for one hive. The winner also will receive a one-year Tri-County Beekeepers Association membership and tuition for a beekeeping class at the University of Minnesota.

The St. Cloud-based group is comprised of about 120 beekeepers from Benton, Stearns and Sherburne counties. Few of the members are under the age of 30.
