ST. AUGUSTA - President Barack Obama saluted the veterans who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan during a speech in Minneapolis today (Tuesday).  He addressed the National American Legion Convention.

He also addressed the issue of the high unemployment rate of 12.4 percent for those who have served in the two wars.  He highlighted initiatives he had proposed earlier that would create new training programs for veterans, and give tax credits to companies that hire service members.

We went to the American Legion Post 621 in St. Augusta today to get reaction to the President's speech.

Steven Hammer of St. Cloud says it's critical for America to take care of it's vets when they return home from service.

Obama promised to honor his responsibility to veterans by spending more on assistance, and speeding up the handling of disability claims.  Doug Bischoff of St. Cloud says it's a start.

Congresswoman, and Republican Presidential candidate, Michele Bachmann will address the convention on Thursday.
