FOLEY -- Benton County is working to recruit much-needed Foster Care Providers for kids around the area.

We just need a safe place for kids to go when their own home becomes unsafe for them to stay in.

Jill Nettestad of Benton County Human Services says potential Foster parents must be at least 21 years old and can be single or married, as well as homeowners or renters.

The process to become a foster parent is very thorough and can take up to three months.

Required steps include fingerprints being sent into the state, training for car seats and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, and a homestudy.

There is a specific need for foster care for children in the Sauk Rapids and Rice school districts, says Nettestad.

Nettestad says many of the children in need of foster care are at the preschool or early elementary school age.
